I am so glad you found this website! My name is Dr. Roníca L. Jacobs aka Dr. Ro and I have researched resilience for many years. Many family members and friends would comment on or question often how I am able to bounce back so quickly after my struggles or setbacks. Truthfully, I didn't have an answer. So, I started my research because it fascinated me and I, too, wanted to know how I was able to be mentally tough and push through. I wondered why some of us can bounce back after a tragedy or unforeseen event and why others struggle to overcome their setbacks. I wondered if it is just a skill or talent that you are born with or is it some form of random luck. Either way, it is an intriguing topic to me. And it is in my nature to help others learn to build resilience, so they can push through.
So, who am I? I am an educator by trade. I have been in education for over twenty years as a teacher, instructional coach, trainer, and administrator. Teaching people and helping them learn new skills is my superpower. And apparently, so is being RESILIENT (wink)!
I have tasked myself to learn all I can to help many people, like you, push through struggles and overcome obstacles and feel triumphant and successful. My doctoral studies were in transformational leadership so I have done tons of research on change.
I am here to answer questions you may have such as, what is resilience anyway? What does it mean? Do we really need grit and perseverance in our lives? Are there any benefits to being resilient? Do you already have enough of this bounce-back ability? How can I become more resilient? How can I be strong like ________? Or, you may already be strong and you are feeling at your edge or breaking point because you have spent so much time and effort being strong for yourself and/or others. These may be some of your questions or concerns and you may have many more.
